South Townsville Term 2 District Newsletter and Brownie Program
Term 2 Newsletter
Welcome to Katja Bormann, our newly enrolled Brownie Leader. Katja enjoyed her first camp this weekend – she flew down the flying fox and slid down the slip’n’slide – I’m sure she’ll fit in very well!
Our Boot Camp themed camp saw the girls and leaders learning all about camping in the outdoors with Guides – tent care and setup, flagpoles and ceremonies, fire lighting and safety, health and hygiene on camp, preparing and eating different foods, getting on with all, working as a patrol. And then we had the fun things – flying fox, low ropes, creek crossings on tyre tubes, toasting marshmallows on floating fires, campfire songs, spider webs, star gazing…. The list goes on. Narbethong was very impressed with how well and how quickly everyone learned the skills needed – Wulguru Guides need to look out!
Five Brownies made their promise at camp, while the Guides renewed their promise. We are still looking for new Brownies and Guides, so spread the word on how great it all is!
14 June we (Brownies and Guides) will be touring the Endeavour Replica ship – a full sized copy of the original Endeavour. It is only here for the June long weekend, and we need to fit into their times – please meet Bundaroo at the ship – it should be moored near the Museum of Tropical North Qld at 3.30. We will have to wait in line with the general public, I can’t book us a specific time. It closes at 5pm, the last tour starting at 4pm. Please wear full uniform with a hat. Parents are welcome to join us. It will cost approx $8 each, so we are asking for $5 from each girl. The units will cover the rest of the cost of this unique opportunity.
22 June we will also have a joint activity – a Musical Extravaganza as a Red Nose Fundraising activity, please bring a gold coin donation to this event. All welcome to this Wednesday event.
Tuesday, 7 June is the next Support Group meeting – all parents are welcome to attend this meeting at 5pm.
