In 2011 the Bluewater Committee were successful in obtaining a grant from the Ergon Energy Envirofund. The Envirofund is a grant program that provides funding for not-for-profit community groups and organisations to undertake projects with an energy conservation and environmental focus in their local community.
The Bluewater Committee received a grant for $2412.80 to replace toilets and showers in the second ablution block. The new toilets are dual flush and use less than 4 litres of water per flush. The new water efficient shower heads can use as little as 6 litres of water per minute.
The Bluewater Committee would like to thank the Ergon Energy Envirofund for their financial support.

Powerlink Queensland is a State Government-owned corporation that transports high voltage electricity from power stations to distribution companies such as Ergon Energy and ENERGEX. When building new transmission lines, Powerlink often provides funding for community projects in close proximity to the new transmission lines through their Community Benefits Program.

Chairman, Eleanor Pollock and Treasurer, Frances Chatterton attended a cheque presentation ceremony at the Bluewater Rural Fire Brigade building on 26th October, 2011. The Bluewater Committee received a cheque for $3,798.00 to install new toilets in Big Hut and Bluewater House and to install a built-in cupboard in the leader’s room in Bluewater House. These improvements will benefit not only the members of Flinders Region Guides but every community organisation that uses the campsite.
The Bluewater Committee would like acknowledge and sincerely thank Powerlink for their support of Girl Guides in Flinders Region.
JOTA & GACO in FLINDERS REGION
Bluewater Campsite in Townsville came alive with the sounds of 125 Gumnuts, Brownies and Guides from six Districts enjoying themselves at the Flinders Region JOTA Camp held on the 14-16 October 2011.
A varied program included making a Flashing World Badge, origami autograph book, cooking patty cakes in Cobs and Colemans, exploding rockets and boats, identifying animal scat and handling native animals, as well as the always popular Low Ropes, Flying Fox and Creek Traverse.
Girls managed to make contact via radio with the Scouts camping across the highway, and others in New Zealand, Perth and Toowoomba as well as others.
On what was an extremely hot and humid weekend, the girls enjoyed the opportunity to cool off in the Bluewater Creek before heading off for showers, dinner and campfire.
Opening and Closing Ceremonies and Horseshoe complete with Flags every morning gave
the girls a well rounded camping experience.
The logistics of feeding 160 people, and running the program was capably handled by the Region’s leaders and the girls had a fantastic experience. The local TV crew was in awe of the experiences we were providing for the girls and did an excellent piece on the advantages of Guiding on WIN Local News.
The camp was also registered as a GACO camp – and all of us did enjoy a Great Aussie Camp Out!
